Excellent attention to detail that permeates from the decor, to the food, to even the lights near the bathroom. Nice small stalls as an option for a nook like experience for dinner. The salmon sashimi was very very good even compared to a recent trip to Tokyo. Had the chef special box which had great selection of food. Highly recommended for the price point.
This is a hidden gem in the beaches with the best service and fresh fist at affordable prices! The staff are attentive and treat you like family. If you're looking for an authentic experience you must sit at the sushi bar where Chef Lee will curate the best of the day dishes for you depending on what you're feeling. We love coming here as it feels like a home away from home! Hospitality; check, food; check, vibe; check - there's a reason why it's been a long standing staple in the area!
I have been going here for the better part of 23 years now. I am not sure why I haven’t left a review until now but today the owner and master Chef did something for me that was amazing. As I had finished and paid for my meal I left my booth to use the restroom. As soon as Chef Lee saw me leave the booth he waved to me and on my way back I stopped and asked him about a dish they used to serve maybe 15-18 years ago. It was a spicy salad that has since been removed from the menu. It was my literal favourite and the thing that got me hooked on this restaurant. Chef Lee told me he will make me a complimentary salad to see if it’s what I remember. So I went back to the table and told my friends we can’t leave yet. The server then brought over a small salad with the spicy dressing like many years ago. I was so happy and then the Chef told me that if it’s not too busy next time I come in he will make the dish for me. It was so nice that he recognized me as a valued customer and took the time to make me something he knew I liked. I am a customer for life at Yumei Sushi. Thank you Chef Lee
Yumei Sushi is one of the best local sushi restaurants in the East End of Toronto. The staff are really friendly, especially the sushi chefs at the sushi bar. Make sure to say hi to them when you arrive and bye before you leave! The sushi is consistently good. Their melt-in-your-mouth sashimi and sushi (the sake/salmon being a favourite), as well as the age tofu are amazing, and are always fresh. I would also recommend the soy myun soup or udon noodle soups; both are perfect for the winter. My family and I have been going here for over a decade now. I would absolutely highly recommend! The ONLY downside I would discuss is service can be a bit slow, but only because they are always busy! Make a reservation if you want to guarantee one of their beautiful Japanese booth seating options and don’t be surprised if service is slow on nights when the restaurant has every table occupied- because they almost always are!
The BEST sushi I've had in Toronto. I'd recently been lamenting the lack of actual fresh, delicious sushi in Toronto until I wandered into this place on a Sunday night. I ordered the chef's box for about 34 - a little pricier than most places but very worth it for what you get. This isn't your typical sushi place that tastes like an imitation of everywhere else - everything felt like it had a special touch and was so tasty. The sashimi was excellent - as good as the best I've gotten on the west coast. at the end a server ran after me when I forgot my leftovers on the table very sweet and sealed the deal as my new favorite sushi place in Toronto.
Yumei Sushi is amazing! The sushi is super fresh and delicious. The place has a cozy, laid-back vibe, and the staff are really friendly and welcoming.
I have to say I was extremely surprised by the quality of food at this restaurant. On average, I would eat sushi once a week and Vancouver and Cabo san Lucas. As you can imagine the seafood there is very fresh. Not only was our meal here spectacular but they had a personalized touch they made. The Ebi Salad was spectacular. The entire meal was excellent. Loved it as much as I did. it’s only the second time I’ve eaten sushi since being here in Toronto and so far is the best. Highly recommend.
Sorry- we were too hungry to take pics of food! It was excellent. Especially the spicy fish soup- my goodness best thing ever. My husband had the vegetarian dragon roll made with tofu on top and eggplant in the centre and it was very good! I had the salmon dragon making- also excellent! But the spicy fish soup was the highlight I will go back just for that!
